Description
Rockbridge Conservation has been leading the way toward increased use of clean renewable solar power for Rockbridge County citizens for many years.
In 2015 we partnered with VA Sun to create a county-wide solar buying co-op that resulted in more than 40 homeowners adding roof-top and ground mounted solar systems to their properties at very competitive prices. These efforts also helped create a market for solar installers who have grown their businesses throughout the area offering an important service and good paying jobs locally in recent years.
In 2022 we partnered with GiveSolar and Rockbridge Habitat for Humanity to provide roof-top installations for three Habitat homeowners. Bringing distributed solar to low- and moderate-income homeowners is a critical part of our vision for a clean energy future.
As the GiveSolar program has evolved, with state-wide participation from Habitat Virginia, Rockbridge Conservation has looked for ways to fill financial gaps that might still be barriers for homeowners going solar. We are very happy to be able to offer financial support for up to four installations each year. Along with GiveSolar, Habitat Virginia, and individual homeowners we can be the “fourth leg of the financial stool” that makes this significant money saving opportunity available to more Habitat residents.
We all have a role to play in improving the lives of all our neighbors by lowering electric bills and reducing air pollution. We’re very excited to offer this “hand-up” to folks in the Rockbridge community.
