What the Committee does:
Rockbridge Conservation’s Energy & Climate Committee members focus on two paths to reduce the energy footprint of local families and institutions:
- Understand how much energy we consume in our daily lives and the ways we might reduce that consumption without imperiling our lifestyle. Learning about our “carbon footprint” can lead to more efficient ways to travel or heat and cool our homes and workplaces. We have encouraged local officials and government staff to look for ways to reduce their institutional emissions.
- Consider the sources of the energy we consume. The committee works to encourage rooftop and other distributed solar power systems in the area and we are encouraged to see the early success of BARC’s innovative Solarize Program and the growing solar industry. The rules for these projects must honor both the importance of clean renewable energy and respect the other critical environmental characteristics RACC has always sought to protect. The Energy and Climate Committee meets as needed.
