Watershed Committee

Addressing water quality issues in Rockbridge.

What the Committee does:

Rockbridge Conservation’s Watershed Committee members do hands-on fieldwork to monitor the water quality of the streams and rivers in Rockbridge County. Various projects work on cleanup and/or restoration efforts on the Little Calfpasture, Woods Creek (Friends of Woods Creek) and other streams. They are the home of the Maury River Alliance, which is advocating to protect the health of the Maury River. Watershed members are also working hard to educate our community about the risks associated with PFAS (forever chemicals) that are found in water and biosolids. In addition, the committee has members who follow water-related problems presented by a variety of developments, including the Mountain Valley Pipeline; the proposed Rocky Forge Wind Farm; and the American Hardwood sawmill on Fredericksburg Road.

Summer only: Ben Salem Wayside Water Quality Testing Results
Sampling of the water quality in the Maury River at Ben Salem Wayside is being done by the James River Association. They post results Friday afternoon or early Saturday.
