Public Comments - Planning for the Future

Contributing to the planning process in Rockbridge County, Lexington & Buena Vista

Description

Since its inception in 1976, members of Rockbridge Conservation (RACC) have contributed public comments, attended public hearings, and worked with public officials on a wide variety of environmentally-related issues. The list ranges from high-speed rail along the I-81 corridor through the Valley to commercial scale solar farms. We are in the process of collecting our public comments on our website. We are also collecting official Rockbridge Conservation letters to the editor, they will appear on the pages below.

Below are the broad areas in which we have provided public comment. Click on the links below for more information on each of these areas.

  • Land Use
  • Energy/Solar
  • Water Quality
  • Transportation
  • Waste/Recycling

Solar:

Members of Rockbridge Conservation’s energy and land use planning committees have been researching and writing up input to provide to the Rockbridge County Board of Supervisors on commercial scale solar.

Commercial solar can be controversial because it is large scale, and if poorly located, it can have a lasting negative impact on viewsheds for neighbors and visitors. RC members have provided draft language to the Supervisors to consider for future ordinances.
