Land Conservation through Public Comments
Public Comments Promote Land Conservation
The Land Conservation Committee has been hard at work in the public arena on behalf of county and city residents. Members of the committee who are experts in various environmental fields are volunteering their time and talent to help our elected and appointed officials make informed decisions about a variety of issues.
These committee members have written and submitted detailed comments to the Lexington Planning Commission and City Council about a variety of topics, including the Lexington Pedestrian and Bike plan and the W&L Strategic Plan regarding protecting Woods Creek and and the Woods Creek Trail, and the Rockbridge County Utility Scale Solar Ordinance.
When topics come up at the county or city level that intersect with Rockbridge Conservation’s mission, we have a core group of volunteers who respond. They research those topics, read the relevant planning materials, consult with the commissioners, and provide public comments to provide the commissioners with insight from a conservation perspective. This takes time and talent, and we owe these folks a great deal of kudos for showing up!
